ORGANIZING

layers, Tools, Fonts

STEP 1: LAYERS

Keeping your layers organized is a great habbit to get into. Rather than having tons of layers in the Layers Palette, make one or two sets to help organize everything and easier to find and scroll.

Renaming layers will waste time when your editing so don't bother.
  1. Background - the original scan.
  2. Layer 1 - text covering, cloning, patching etc...
  3. Set 1 - All the talking, thinking text.
  4. Set 2 - SFX text.
*NOTE: You don't have to do this but I find it alot better.

STEP 2: TOOLS

Here are some tools that are commonly used when editing manga.

Rectangle Tool [U]

This is a great tool for covering up the japanese/chinese text or whatever text you are editing. Have it set to the settings above and start to cover the text on Layer 1 and NOT on the Background Layer. That way you can always refer back to the original text and see what you are missing or where the English text should go...etc.. ^___^

Brush Tool [B]

This tool can be used for covering up things that the Rectangle Tool can't reach. Mostly used for small areas or retouching something.

Clone Tool [S]

Used for cloning stuff mostly patterns.

Patch Tool [J]

Much like the Cloning Tool but somewhat better.

Text Tool [T]

An important tool in the world of editing. ^^

Pen Tool [P]

I use this tool to redraw thin lines such as hair.

STEP 3: FONTS

Some 'commonly used fonts' for certain text...

Bubble Text
(text inside a bubble whether it be thinking or talking)
Side Text
(text outside a bubble or somewhere in/at the side or end of a bubble)
Thoughts Text (Usually inside a box or outside somewhere...:/)
Too much different SFX fonts. @_@
Go to 1001freefonts and pick out some. ^^

SFX Text (text that are describle an action or sound)

Siana's Tip: "Try to find fonts that resemble the japanese...keep it easy to read."
